Rosary Apologetics
Scriptural Text in the Rosary
Has anyone ever scolded you for praying the Rosary because it isn't in the bible? Yes, while the word "Rosary" isn't in the bible, the actual prayers we pray each decade certainly are!
Our Father
Jesus instructs us how to pray- Matthew 6: 9-13
This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors;
and do not subject us to the final test,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Hail Mary
The Angelic Salutation- Luke 1: 26-28
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you."
Elizabeth's greeting- Luke 1: 41-42
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb."
Note on Other Prayers:
The Glory Be prayer is simply referred to as "The Doxology," which shouldn't ruffle the feathers of any Christian believers. All Christians believe in a trinitarian God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and would agree God is to be praised forever!
Additionally, these are simply the words we pray during a decade of the Rosary. We should be simultaneously meditating upon the Mysteries of the Rosary.
Why Pray to Mary to Intercede for Us?
Prayers on behalf of others- James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.
What do the Angels and Saints Do with our Intercessions?
Prayers offered to the foot of Jesus- Revelation 5:8
When he took it [the scroll], the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each of the elders held a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the holy ones.
